Estuary, beach, island, and reef fishing are all close at hand. Whether flicking lures at snags, trolling for spanish mackerel, skipping poppers for GT’s, or bottom bashing for trout and reds, Sunrise Beach Lodge is your gateway to them all.

Species commonly caught within easy striking distance include: barramundi, mangrove jack, king salmon, fingermark, queenfish, giant trevally, spanish mackerel, coral trout, nannagai, red emperor, job fish, mahi mahi, wahoo, sailfish, and marlin to name a few. Our location near the confluence of the Russell and Mulgrave rivers provides excellent estuary fishing and mudcrab habitat heaven – so if the wind is up too much for a reef trip you’ll always have fishing options.

Please visit should you require estuary and or reef fishing charter options.

While fishing is generally the primary activity in the area there are numerous other distractions for those less pescatorially focussed. The surrounding beauty of  World Heritage listed parks provides breathtaking views whether you are doing everything or nothing – beach strolls are certainly a perfect opportunity to soak up the tranquility of this special area.

If you are in need of rest and relaxation then reading on the verandah day bed is a proven battery recharger – the day bed comes with complimentary ocean breeze induced cat naps.

For the more romantic and or adventurous, beach strolls to the freshwater waterfall at the southern end of the beach will leave you refreshed and invigorated – especially if you brave the crystal clear rock pools.

The uninhabited Frankland Island group are only a short boat trip away.  With sandy beaches, fringing reefs, and clear blue water they are perfect for swimming, diving, snorkeling and enjoying a beach picnic.  If you do not have your own boat the Frankland Islander runs daily tours to the islands.
